Tone removing help

I have a coin that is graded in a holder as MS-63. I'm trying to attribute the coin, but toning makes it very hard to see die markers of any kind. I am thinking of removing it from the holder to remove the toning. Because it has been graded as MS, I am hoping to treat it without damaging the coin. A...

Re: PCGS results

Congrats on the 88-O VAM 15! 8 coins -- Collector Club voucher? Yes it was a voucher. Thanks for all the nice comments. At the same time I sent another submission for conservation. I had an 1889-O VAM-1A2 XF-40 that had ugly dark spots all over it. I don't know if someone sneezed on it or what. Aft...

That 88-O VAM 15 in 55 is one hell of a coin

JR,
I remember finding that coin raw at a show. From the same dealer, I got an ANACS MS-64 attributed 1902-O VAM-45A! :P

PCGS results

I just got notified of my submission results. I guess that I can't complain.
The PCGS unattributed 1881-O (V-1G), 1883-O (V-36A), and 1884-O (V-19A) are Fantastically Toned coins.

Re: A Dozen VAMs for 2020

I like this group. But that might be because I have a couple.
I like the VAM-57. Its not easy to find.
But the 02-O 45A is really something special.

Re: 1921 P - No Idea of VAM - Needed Help I think I am getting distracted.

I've been trying to place this one. Several look close in some of the photos, but I'm not totally sure on anything yet.
But so far to me 1Ai looks closest.
Sorry I can't be of much help.

Re: What's Going on at the FUN?

To Hairfield; With the current mkt, table fees, travel/lodging, etc, most likely a ton of old unhappy grey haired men, trying to scratch out a living, the same old way that isnt working anymore. A few progressive coin tekkie's that are doing well, leaving the others in dust using internet & newer m...

1892-CC VAM-1B page

Please take a look at the 1892-CC VAM-1B page. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1892-CC_VAM-1B My VAM-1B is the first LFCP. It has been confirmed by JB as a VAM-1B as shown by my photos on the SSDC census. I do not believe that the second set of LFCPs are a match. I belie...

Re: Morgan 1921-P VAM-3CV

Hi Ken, From the cracks on your coin and the broken G, I'm guessing that your 3CV is a later die state. My 3CV doesn't have any cracks or the broken G (like the LFCPs on the page). It doesn't surprise me that you coin doesn't show the curved line above DOLLAR. It is a very fine polish line that coul...

Re: 1881O......?

Since you brought up die cracking I will direct you to this page first. http://www.1881o.com/vam47matrix.html I cannot see the whole coin obverse or reverse, but if you will look through my web site I feel sure the answer is there. You mentioned a lot of die cracking and the VAM 47 has just that wi...

Re: VamWorld in E-Bay Listing

Lee, just looked at the 3o1 & 3o2. Dont think either are/were my DC's so I must be thinking of another 21p with a similar "clean up" a year or two ago.. Chris, I remember that you made a post with photos of one of the coins that merged into 3O2 after I had submitted my coins. I was very confident o...

I would take John's advise and look for scribbles and also die markers before sending your coin all the way to the US.

Lee, I didn't mean for my comment to come across as brash as it was not my intention. It was only that I would've gladly sent it your way if you needed me to. No worries either way. :D

Re: VamWorld in E-Bay Listing

I wasn't aware of your research on this series until you reached out to me about the VAM-3GT but I do remember offering to send the DC to you only to not hear from you any further Lee. ;) ;) At least not till after the kill anyways. Felix, I think that it was about a half dozen people that I told t...
