Re: 1880 p vam 57 with multiple reverse clashing??

Here's a few shots from a VAM 57 to clear up whether or not it's the same reverse, because you might be right. The first image is a close up of the weird fan shaped lump at the top of the leg. The second shows a gouge between the first and second left clusters in the right bough. This is above the L...

Re: 1880 p vam 57 with multiple reverse clashing??

That's not the VAM 57 reverse. There's doubling on the outer leaves of the left bough that isn't present on your example. I'd have you doublecheck for the VAM 25 reverse marker of several die chips in the center of the outer right (viewer's left) wing. If this is a VAM 25 marriage, this stage occurs...

Re: When some PUP's are missing?

In general, when some of the later stage listing features aren't present, carefully read the earlier stage listing. As in read them. In this case, the VAM 19 listing mentions the pitting on the neck. VAM 32A has been eliminated, so there's no such thing as an EDS VAM 32A any more. If your verbal des...

Re: 1884-CC VAM 4A help needed

The clashing is minor and not particularly noteworthy. Your image of the area around the wheat grain shows several of the gouges that define a VAM 4A. This die damage is not from clashing, but might be from a clumsy effort to efface clashmarks. There are several minor stages in this progression. In ...

Re: Favorite Non-List VAM

The latest one like this that made me take note is the 1924-S VAM 1A. It's the subject of my next column in Coin World. Of course, when I spot a non-list VAM I really like it has a habit of ending up on my list for the following year

VAMs 24 (the hard pack reported is a 24A), 19A and 28. None of them are all that easy to find to begin with

In either format. I haven't broken it down by hard versus soft, but I probably will sometime

A tough set just got tougher

The 78-CC GSA set is a real challenge. Just added a new slot for the only known GSA example of this well traveled dollar.
I'm not going to make anyone eyes bleed trying to figure it out. It's a VAM 7.

Now down to 3 78-CC VAMs unknown in GSA packaging, still hunting.

Yeah, you took note of the pitting, then missed it in the titles for the individual pages. VAM 16A is not an official listing, so 'it's unofficial'

Re: 1882-CC 2B or 2C

VAM 2B1. I'd caution you about calling it EDS or LDS. It's already a minor stage designation that was further split. There's a limit to the minutia that even VAM collectors will tolerate. But seriously, the 'polishing roughness' is actually a C3 master hub deal. You'll see it show on multiple dies a...

Re: Back from Leroy

New pages have been setup and VAM-20 eliminated. Let me know if I need to make any changes. Multiple thank you's for doing this - again. The 79 VAM 117 is perfect. I made a minor change to the 24 VAM 1T page, but I can't fix the spacing for the remaining plates. I added a comment to the 21 VAM 89 p...
