Re: 1900 O/CC

. You simply cannot have identical date and mint mark positions and obverse and reverse cracks and be a different die pair. unless we've walked into duplicate listings. This is a date that could have several such listings until a complete study is nearly finished. I agree with John C's attribution o...

That's more like waiting to get in to Fogo de Chao. Of course, if the wait is long enough, you've got time to hit Vaccaro's.

Re: Was suggested to post here

Yeah, I use a toothpick. A light poke to see if it moves is enough. It could be retained scrap. It doesn't look like it was actually in the die itself to me.

Gotta ask....
Is this raised or incuse?
If raised, have you tried poking it with a stick?

Re: New token purchase

Yeah, it's similar to the Grant and Wm Penn tokens from other parades in the era. Both of those are credited to Morgan. No initials on this one.
Listed as Rulau Pa Ph 396, this is the plate coin for the entry in 'United States Tokens 1700-1900'

New token purchase

This showed up yesterday. Struck in 1887 as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the US Constitution. As I understand it these were tossed to viewers along the parade route. A. Loudon Snowden was Superintendent of the Mint and earlier Chief Coiner. He had some influence on the design ...

Re: 1889 v 23A Maybe????????????????

Good luck and never say never. Even if the best you can do is an image from a flatbed scanner like you used in your recent eBay listings, It should work for an actual VAM 23A. Drag and drop, just like this image file....

Might want to revise the images so the address isn't visible.

The coin is a nice find

I'll likely see this in hand in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it landing on my desk. If I can get decent pictures of my own, this would make a great subject for an 'About VAMs' column.

If it lands in the hands of anyone here, it really could use a trip back to ANACS to fix one of my former co-worker's mistakes

Re: Incredible 83s coming to market...

It's been tried a couple of times. This is 35 year old tech that got hauled off as scrap about ten years ago. Something like it might work for silver eagles and stuff like that, but teaching a machine to appreciate art is a tricky thing.

Re: Incredible 83s coming to market...

Forgive me for being unable to even muster one or two crocodile tears for the future owner of this piece. This whole conversation is akin to complaining about grades on 1913 V nickels. Nice to hold and look at, but that's as far as I'd go even if I had the cash in hand. And Roger, it's only a matter...
