Re: Tampered dies.
My interpretation: I respectfully call your attention to the fact that some person at the U.S. Mint at San Francisco has been tampering with dies sent there for coinage. I have discovered this upon examination of those dies returned from last years order. To what extent this may have been carried I ...

Morgan 21-P VAM-3X (VEDS) with Planchet Crack
Here is a VEDS example of Morgan 21-P VAM-3X. Quite a bit more going on in the scribbles area compared to VAM-3GY. WIN_20210119_13_15_27_Pro.jpg WIN_20210119_13_13_46_Pro.jpg There appear to be three diagonal scratches in the UTFs (from bottom to top): One from the fifth UTF to the leg, one from the...

Morgan 1921-P VAM-25 = VAM-1V?
I know, I know, 25/25A is a wide reed coin and 1V is not. The photos below are from a VAM-25A example. Note the bent line in the bow. Matches that shown for VAM-1V. WIN_20210105_13_10_47_Pro.jpg Note the hairpin scribble adjacent to the right leg. Matches that shown for VAM-1V. WIN_20210105_13_13_19...

Could be PMD but seems too precise to me. Perhaps a crack-map prototype.

Morgan 1921-P Struck Through Wire
Here is what I initially thought was an example of a typical die-crack.
But it appears to be struck through wire.

Morgan 1921-D VAM-1CB
This is an EDS of 21-D VAM-1CB. The scribbles, especially outside the right leg feathers are very distinctive. WIN_20201230_14_23_50_Pro.jpg WIN_20201230_14_24_01_Pro.jpg There are some other markers on this coin not shown on the 1CB page. There is a small crack running between the LLA of DOLLAR (th...

Re: 1921-P quiz for J.R. and J.B.
Interesting stuff.
Another PUP on this 24B2 and what I assume is your #3 are two die scratches below the date.
These show on the LFCP for 24B2.

Re: 1921-P VAMs 24A1-2-3 progression
Nice work.
I have a 24A1 EDS with pitting on the fourth right star and the appropriate scribbles but with no reverse pitting and no cracks on "UNITED", just the start of cracking around the star.

Re: 1921 "Mush" - strike? Post Mint Damage? Acid Treatment?
Look, I'm not saying this dollar has not had a rough life. But if I showed you this: one.jpg Would you say polished to death? This, perhaps. two.jpg The pattern here, especially on the obverse, shows tremendous control over whatever process was applied. To what end? Clearly not to make it shiny.

Re: 1921 "Mush" - strike? Post Mint Damage? Acid Treatment?
I've got a 1921 very similar to this one (it is around here somewhere). I'm not sure that over-polishing explains this. The obverse has pretty good detail but fades off at "UNUM". The reverse looks OK for most of the wreaths and the eagle's tail. The matte finish doesn't suggest polishing either. I ...

Glad to help.
I do not have an example of 1L in hand, but the "AM" cracks certainly matched the photos.

Re: Suggestion - Would a standard reference grid make attribution easier?
I'm using this layout to sort out cracks on 1921 Morgans (it is very much a work in progress and not ready for prime time).
Sort of a connect the dots approach.

Re: OT - What would you do?
Pre-Covid, I would get a cheap SW ticket and deliver it. Can get 60lbs in the overhead and/or under the seat. I did that once too. Direct flight to buyer's city, he met me at the bottom of the escalator and we had coffee a few steps away. Then I handed him my carry-on bag, went back up the escalato...
