Tape Your Boxes!

Please take 8 seconds to watch this video of me opening, emptying, and reclosing a Small Flat Rate box in 6 seconds. Fortunately, all contents were accounted for when I received the box. Tape your boxes!

Yes. Fairly major strike-thru on the obverse.

Close-up picture? Leroy's standards have shifted to include more trivial breaks than he did 15 years ago.

Re: Vam designation "JOH-23" 1921-D

Since the book was written, many have had VAM numbers assigned due to scribbling scratches, or later die stages being found and determined to be listable. There's a list of these on the " Fun with 1921 " page. If you have one that has not had a VAM number assigned, it may be eligible, especially if ...

Re: 1899O,morgen gouge on Eyes

Start with the date and mint mark. The date is in the normal position, and the mint mark seems to be slightly high. I don't see any repunched digits in the date and don't see a repunched mint mark. There might be some doubling on the left wreath, but maybe not. Other marks you are posting are just d...

Re: 1899 Morgan. Is this a new VAM?

The surface of the 9 is messed up from damage, but look above the 2nd 9 and you should see that the date is repunched. You'll probably also find the underside of the flag of the 1 and the top right of the 1st 9 doubled. These are the keys to identifying this popular variety. Die cracks develop over ...

Re: 1922-D Vam 1U EDS? Or ???

I don't see a match for the two cracks shown taking a quick look through the Peace dollar supplements and VW pictures. They're also not strong enough to be considered a die break, so they would not be listable as anything until a later die stage is found. Both locations are very common for die crack...

Re: American Eagle 2021 One Ounce Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set Designer Edition

Exact same thing happened to me regarding the order. Couldn't connect during the first 20 minutes, came back after lunch and errands 2 hours in and ordered a set no problems. The new reverse is more realistic depiction than the old one, and it was odd to see the original ASE reverse with that obvers...

Return it, but in a professional manner. If the seller is reputable, this will go smoothly without the need for a SNAD.

Post a closeup of the date. I don't see anything at first glance that wolf lead me to an attribution. I think what you're calling a thread-like impression is just a die polishing line.

Re: 1897-S VAM? Part 2

The chip on the 1 is the most interesting thing about this one. LateDateMorganGuy identified this as die pair 28 in his study, but noted that it was not a match to any specific VAM. I would describe it to Leroy as "Date slightly left within normal position, S mint mark set right, tilted right. Crack...

Re: 1921 S Attribution Assistance

Circulated 21-S is not going to be easy. They usually start out mushy and only get worse with wear. If there are no scribbles and nothing else noteworthy, I'd just call it VAM 1 and move on.

Re: 1896-O oval O mystery coin

Contemporary or modern either way it's counterfeit, so why are there listed "contemporary counterfeits"? There are almost 40 fake coins that have been VAMed and several in the top 100. I can't think of many hobbies where credence is given to fake items, regardless of when they were faked. I can see...
