Re: Is 1900p v30/30A a HOT-50??

It doesn't help that the "Additional Photos" section of the VAM 30 page shows pictures of the VAM 18 reverse. Also, did Leroy actually say, "which is likely in a hub," in the specification of VAM 18 regarding the doubled 9?

Re: Do you suffer from VAM Hypocorism?

Impaled Eagle. The coin that keeps coming back like a bad cold... It does? When it first surfaced a while back after 40+ years in the dark, it was more like Brigadoon, and being a coin pictured in the VAM book that shouldn't be there, VAM collectors find it a heck or a lot more desirable than a bad...

Re: 1934 Medium D Double Die Variety not listed

"Grande Excellente Molto Supremo Moderato e Dolce." ma non troppo. Another explanation I've heard is that "medium" was supposed to be in relation to previously used mintmark sizes on Peace dollars. Why not simply say the D is "X by Y millimeters?" Because the measuring "spatula" that Leroy uses to ...

Re: 1934 Medium D Double Die Variety not listed

Only two mintmark sizes were in use on silver dollars during 1934: large and small. "Medium" is a misleading misnomer, mistake, missive, mississippi, missoula....ahhhh....missing anymore. A plausible explanation: A "large" D at the time the VAM book was being written was the one seen on Kennedy hal...

Re: Any Idea about this HUGE drop in gold today?

...To be fair- Many folks with a few bucks bought siver around $30 thinking it a great investment coming off the $49 highs- What a mistake we all made. Russ James & myself will not forget. The $49 high came during the CSNS show that year. There were west coast dealers that lost 10% during their fli...

Back from Travels, and Backlogged

I'm finally home after 3 weeks of travelling, some for work (Japan, Houston), some for family (LA). I was rather surprised on my drive to work today for the first time since Feb. 3, that it was light outside. I have a bit of catching up to do, needless to say, so if anyone is waiting for a response ...

Re: SSDC REGISTRY Problem

I have never had any luck putting VSS on SSDC never new why so just to put them in my inventory PCI took the numbers and I posted them. I’m sure THATS NOT RIGHT but I can always change it. When I talk about VSS it’s only the coins that are just VSS slabbed. Open for a solution👍🏻 See my previous pos...

The official listing is only updated by Leroy. If someone were to send him a coin, he might change it.

I remember trying to add VSS certs and couldn't add them so I stopped trying even though there is an option to enter VSS cert numbers. This was a while ago.
Send me a list of numbers and I'll get them added.

I can't remember if we also awarded it to A George Mallis or just named the literary awards in his honor.
We considered it at the time we awarded it to Pete Bishal, but decided to just name the literary award for him. I don't think he had any descendants that could receive the award, either.

Re: Die Studies

Carson City used 20 pairs to mint 670k in 1893. And they took really good care of their dies. The VAMs given to those dies would depend on the hubbing of the die itself, not the number of pairs used. 10 obverse dies could all be VAM-1 if they were made from the same hub that didn't show any unique ...
