Re: 1881-S VAM-1B vs VAM-67

ok. i looked again and may have to eat my words. also the hole goes a little deeper than i first noticed. v67 page This reverse shared with VAM-37, VAM-42, VAM-44, VAM-51, VAM-57, and VAM-67. That's actually pretty misleading. While all 6 are specified as having a C3p reverse, it's rather likely th...

Looks like he's waiting for the bird feeder to be refilled.

Re: 1881-S VAM-1B vs VAM-67

I see on the pages that there is a question about the two subject VAMs possibly sharing the same reverse die. Looks like JR has seen VAM-67 coins both with (LDS) and without the chip in eagle's wing. fwiw, a quick mm comparison shows they cannot be the same reverse die (not even possible). so long ...

Did you create your account on the SSDC Registry first? I'm pretty sure your name is in the membership list in the database, but I can look into it further tonight.

Re: Was suggested to post here

... @messydesk Any suggestions to provide a better picture/result? I will see what I can do to provide a better picture/scan and go get a toothpick. In the close-up, the light is too harsh and direct. Try softer lighting a little off to the side. Depending on what you're using to take the picture, ...

Re: O/T Outdated Sheldon Grading Scale

I feel strongly that the Plus designations were and are a piss poor attempt to kinda upgrade the old died in wool system, useful guide yes. ... What I like least about the plus designation is that I can no longer write something like, "difficult variety in MS63+," and mean MS63 and up. Not only tha...

Re: Was suggested to post here

It looks indented based on the lighting in the full-coin picture, making me think it's struck through something. Close-up picture is a little ambiguous.

Re: just won this 80 p

thanks for the info. Does vam 50a have a clashed E? on VAMWorld it says phantom clashed E That needs to go. VAM 50A does not have a clashed E. "Phantom E" has always essentially meant, "I want to see an E there, but I can't point it out or photograph it, and nobody else can see it, either." If some...

Yes, that's VAM 15. There are no 1882-S VAMs with established premiums.

Most dates have a "Sort by Clash" or some similarly worded link in the list of additional guides. I would go there first.

Re: O/T Outdated Sheldon Grading Scale

When wondering if something should be replaced, one must ask if that which one is considering replacing is useful. The Sheldon scale is usually useful for its intent - a proxy for a coin's value. It's also a well-understood lingua franca of the hobby. Grading services have revised the scale by intro...

I agree with MS62. Nice variety, slightly later die stage, but you can still see the misplaced date.
