Apologies for missing this. Tried hard to stay up until midnight-ish my time but the sleep goddesses got the better of me.
Hoping to catch another one in the future OR, let's dream, of attending on live!
All the best in 2021, folks. And happy hunting.

Re: 1899-O near date
messydesk - thanks yet again for the insight. I often feel as if I'm in the Falklands (around 1982, and possibly on the wrong side of the battle). Nothing that warm around here, sadly, so proper UK-based the EXIF would show. alefzero - similar thanks. Subjectivity is an issue to deal with on normal...

1899-O near date
Not the prettiest lady, but one I'd appreciate hearing a few thoughts on. As I read it, it's a near date, relatively normal mint mark placement, which only shows a VAM-36 as an option. Yet, the digit is clogged and I've no stick small enough to poke around. Do I read the MM correctly? If it is a bit...

Re: 1894 S VAM ?
Maybe I will catch flack for saying this, but why does it really matter what VAM it might be? ... This is a case of the journey being more important than the destination. Amen. Amen. Amen. I've got my own cache of "I'll wonder as I wander through the potentials" - sometimes never arriving at a conc...

Re: 1921-P Morgan Vam-15 question
Kissov - brilliant guess and I believe correct. The cracking patterns match up with the exceptions of the ones across the eagle's wings and through "trust," and the lower wreath leaves on the reverse, and I don't see anything across Liberty's neck, but everything else matches up nicely. Interesting...

1921-P Morgan Vam-15 question
Admittedly not a fan of the year, but I'm looking at a few coins I bought as a kid in Wyoming back in the 1970s. A raw and rather unsightly (to my eyes) 17-berry, vanilla-ice cream coin seems to be a Vam-15 - but without the reverse die pitting and some extra early die cracks not shown on the 15 or ...

Appreciate the look.
Love the tripling of the 0. Reminds me of an onion. Or an ogre. Either one - onion's have layers; ogre's have layers. Right?!

Nice coin for sure. Grabbed on Heritage last night I see from the holder. Always nice to pick up a 7/8 unattributed but able to spot just enough to make an educated guess - and be right!

Was hoping so but you know how wishful thinking can cloud objectivity... Lucky find, for sure. As they say in golf (and love), better luck than skill any old day?!

1889-O question
Normal date placement. Unsure if the doubling of the 1 is PMD (don't believe so) and hard to tell if the 8s are doubled as well. GR 1889-O unknV date.jpg GR 1889-O unknV upclose 1.jpg Round O set high, I believe. GR 1889-O unknV MM.jpg Not much else going on with this but can't tell which flavor thi...

Re: FUN VAM Dinner Substitute?
If there's going to be great conversation and cheer, count me in from the UK! I'm 5 hours ahead of FL so I'll be deeply into gin time by then. I'm still young (or a young 54) so a midnight start isn't too bad! Ahead of the virtual FUN fun, I'll openly admit that I'm getting a few of the natives here...

1880-P VAM-28/47 wreath doubling?
Believe I have a rather standard 1880-P VAM-28 (the old 47). Main entry under that year says the date is a "doubled 1-80, tripled 0" but the coin page only shows the doubled 8 and tripled 0. I'll include pictures of mine here in case the picture of the 1 is helpful, and is currently missing. I thoug...

David Wang's 1879-S book
Would love to gift myself with an early holiday present - the 2001 book by David Wang "A guide to the 1879-S reverse of 1878 Morgan silver dollars." Long out of print and seemingly not available by normal routes. Anyone have a copy they'd be willing to see or send me to a known spot where I can get ...

Re: 1886P VAM-1E with double arrow reverse
Really appreciate your input as I've not been able to see clearly what the inside of the VAM-IE "6" looks like - but I'm sure it doesn't match up. My untrained eye thinks it isn't a VAM-1A, too. Nothing else matching up on the reverse. Will shoot it off to VSS when I can but I live in the UK now so ...

Re: rarity?
Less scarce than the VAM-113 (which might be the holy grail of the lot), but much more scarce than the others according to the population census numbers in the SSDC registry. As of today (October 20, 2020): 36.1 - 65 36B - 51 (including 3 details coins) 36A - 30 (including 3 details coins) 36.3 - 13...

Re: 1886P VAM-1E with double arrow reverse
Thanks, LJS123. Here are the additional pictures. Sorry, full date not quite in focus but the LFCP should show it well enough. Looked at the doubled arrows of many multiple later years and the one I'm seeing is similar to the 86-O V-18, 87-S V-17, 88-O V-9 & 26, 89-P V-15 & 26, and quite a few more....

Re: 1886P VAM-1E with double arrow reverse
I know the 86 series is not particularly interesting to many, but can any of the more experienced eyes please look and comment on this before it gets relegated into the dark bottoms of the discussion forum? I happen to love what is going in in the 6 and and the doubled arrows although they're subtle...
