Re: My 1899-o VAM-30 - Is a 1-8-9-9 possible?

Well Mike, my take-away from this is I need to organize my boxes of raw Morgans...

edit to add - and not let my wife clean my desk. My 50mm lens is missing since her last clean sweep.

I do see on my coin what you are talking about on the second nine. This is the best that I could capture it without my 50mm lens.

I'm not sure if all examples have it but mine does. Here's some crops of my example.

Re: 1878 S VAM 37

Of my 2 examples I only have one obverse LCFP that doesn't show the lines off the cap so well but the lines to the P are obvious.

Acetone is always my first choice. All raw silver purchases get a soak before storage.

Nice scoop Mike!! 8-)

Re: 1888 P VAM 15A/ 39A

Hey Mike, at first I was leaning toward 39A then back to 15A but the more I studied the images for both listings the more I became confused. There are a couple of remarkable similarities between the reverse images.... I'm not sure what it is at this point...

1888 P VAM 15A/ 39A

This is a recent pick from ebay and I was wondering if the reverse die has reached the point to qualify as a buffed, worn, or sunken die.

Re: 83 o vam 36 or 36 a?

The last state of 36A before the E completely disappears and reverts to what I consider v36. Nice pick for the dinero! 8-) A polemic suggestion. I happen to agree. Except, that the E does not "completely" disappear. And "last state" may equal new stage. A picture of the cap top may be of interest. ...
