Re: NGC VAM price less than non VAM?? REALLY

The price guide is still being completed and is not in public view yet. It is coming along. It will be at the SSDC Registry.

OT - Dan Carr Set Almost Done

Among the esoteric sets I have been assembling is a complete set of Dan Carr products where they are overstrikes on large format US dollar coins or employ the design elements of them. I am down to missing only a handful out of over 100 different ones. Here is the latest ANACS grading. Very happy abo...

Re: NGC VAM price less than non VAM?? REALLY

Overgraded and VAM-12A is a vastly overrated variety.

Re: SSDC set registry question- Rotated dies

Re-enabled the set. Looks like a couple are fully imaged and one is only missing one image. Two others should have images to compete as public sets. The archiving of retired sets will be on hold for a bit as I am just too busy to work that. If I get some clear skies one day, I'll get that in. Otherw...

Re: SSDC set registry question- Rotated dies

Someone disabled it. I believe it was because we really have no way to make it work honestly. The VAMs in the set only come sometimes significantly rotated but anyone could populate it with the VAMs listed regardless, making it unfair for those with genuinely rotated dies. I suppose we could insist ...

Re: 1921-P VAM kill

What is the nature of the breaks on this particular one? Would they, on their own, merit a listing? We can see if he does add 1BN2. None are yet registered. If we do collapse them, it is very simple to move any 1BN2 to 1BN and delete 1BN2. So this can accommodate for now and we can review that next ...

Re: 1921-P VAM kill

For now, I will move 1BP to 1BN2 in the Registry. He did say it was the later state with breaks (which are generally listable).

That price includes the extra 2.5% buyer's fee for using a credit card. I don't think that was how the buyer paid.
If (s)he did, that represents a lot of airline miles or cash back credits.

Here is the auction of the discovery piece. The lot description is a worthwhile read.

VSS will sticker these, you know. ;)
A consideration then. Deciding if I want to try to cross the ANACS to PCGS and then send them all to CAC first. Will probably exhibit them at FUN.

OT - Finished a Short but Challenging Set

The LaFayette Dollar die variety set is a fun one. There are only 5 varieties (a 6th one noted elsewhere does not exist). They are catalogued by DuVall numbers 1A, 1B, 2C, 3D, and 4E. The 1C is the non-existent one. The 4E is, by far, the most elusive. I have seen only 5 of them: PCGS MS64, ANACS AU...

Slanted dates are not always listed as such, especially in older book listings. Might march through the listings and just sidestep the near and far date ones.

Re: 1926 VAM-2 Top 50 New Obv Die?

Not Die 1, at least as listed. No crack near the base of the neck. 2006-7.jpg For Die 2, the die polish over TRVST is not present. 2006-9.jpg The thread impression does not appear there, though there is a hit about the same place. That worm is too long to miss. However, there is a die marker that so...

Since there are other DDRs for the date, not all in the the lists. Here are a few shots that had me believe it was the VAM-2 reverse.

1926 VAM-2 Top 50 New Obv Die?

I have what I thought was a Die at some point, but does not match it. The squiggle at the tiara is is absent and the die polish at TRVST does not match. It also does not have the Die characteristic crack. One might think that it is perhaps Die 1 before the crack developed, but the die is worn. There...

1921-D VAM-8B1/8B2 Dot?

Can anyone check theirs to see if the is a small, unlisted dot to the upper left of the T in STATES? It is not in the listing but if others see it on theirs, then maybe it is ready for a small revision. I will probably list mine on eBay (rather than send to Leroy), but didn't want the observation to...

Re: SSDC question

I completed the code. There are some cosmetic issues to clean up, but it is fully functional. Presents list coins for each date and for each list for the typical greysheet sorts of grades. For each individual VAM, it reports the values in all grades. Ash - It is currently the last button in the Deve...
