Re: 1886 P vam...

Super common too and in ridiculously high grades. I have had some in MS67. Tried to get Leroy to list it many years ago, but he declined. It is very different from the vanilla VAM-6 prior to clashing. We do call it out separately for the LDS in the SSDC Registry.

Re: General question

At this point in the VAM game, condition rarity is more important than absolute rarity. The handful of "list" VAMs that are absolutely rare are very well known and when they come to market, sellers will generally point that out in descriptions and prices. Ones that are not on the lists might not be ...

Re: 1880-O V6 Die #1

It is just VAM-6 now, as Die 2 was eliminated. The VAM-6 page should suffice FWIW.

Re: When the first Morgan Dollars were being struck...

Apparently, the Pedestal Fund to finance the base for the statue in 1885 solicited nickel donations. The fairly new Liberty nickel was both symbolic and grossly unpopular, due to the nickel content and the 1883 half eagle scams. SO 1885 and 1886 nickels, already in low mintages were recycled into th...

Re: SSDC Registry Server Planned Outage

Just a reminder that the outage is tonight and overnight. Currently am transferring an 11GB gzipped tar file (backup) across my LAN to my desktop. Just hoping my computer doesn't switch to one of my other WiFi networks in the middle and interrupt. I probably should have disabled them over the interv...

Re: Question for SSDC

A few rumors of people working on variety guides over the years. I considered jumping in, but would be working from almost nothing. Would be nice to integrate them in for sure. Also considered Ikes. There is a site that does Eisenhower varieties. It did not appear complete or mature enough to use as...

SSDC Registry Server Planned Outage - Restored

* UPDATE * We are back up. The local power company has transitioned our lines from poles to underground and will cut over on Thursday night, the 11th, extending into the morning. While I have tested the generator, I am never comfortable running computer hardware on potentially dirty power. So I will...

Re: Wandering the Bay during downtime

Yeah, but unless they changed the fee structure over the years significantly, I learned my lesson with reserves, that nobody bids those auctions and eBay fees for them add up fast. There were just some I should not have auctioned (at 99c start with free shipping).

Re: Wandering the Bay during downtime

Sold one (PCGS AU53) in the same die state on eBay in late April. Foolishly auctioned and it brought thirty bucks or so (half of my cost).

An eighth (6 out of 47) of those registered are designated as PL/DM and likely EDS.

Re: A Time Capsule of Prices

I have some really early greysheets and Teletrade Real Price Guides. The latter is probably the earliest VAM price guides that exist. I should jpg the relevant pages. There were only a few of us submitting VAMs to ANACS then for attribution. They were published around when the Top 100 was released. ...

Is the price guide finally ready for release? I need to check in with the folks who are helping out i the effort. I set up the tools and infrastructure. The details of the numbers were still getting worked out. Some movement upward in the market might require adjustments as well. The nice thing is ...

That's generally my first guess. That or a 1921-D or 1921-S with a D1 reverse.

Dark Side Dot

I was going through some of the remaining potential Leroy coins. Many have since been discovered. A number of others are yawn-worthy possible unlisted ones. Here is one that I figure should get listed. It is a 1926 with a dot clearly below the lower of the three end leaves of the upper branch. It is...

Re: HYPOTHETICAL PROOFS

Proofs were all the major collectors used to put in the cabinets and they wiped and mishandled (per our current protocols) their coins as a manner of custom. Many proofs have often dismissed problems with fine cleaning lines and similar. When looking at proofs also, especially at certain TPGs, make ...

Let's not go there, Roger. And speaking of not going there, that is my position on doing Summer FUN. This will not be over then and Orlando could end up being a hot spot. I do not have great hopes for regular FUN, as much as I would love to attend. Will just hope for FUN 2022.
