Re: 1921-P Morgan Vam-15 question
Interesting. I don't think it's a match for the VAM 15, but I don't know what it is.

Re: 1921-P D2 reverse filled die
I usually gravitate toward attributing by cracks, but this one doesn't seem to have any.
That's a pretty grease-filled reverse example! Hope you can attribute it. Let us know what you find!

Re: 1921 P VAM 3FP photos
Aha. I had to check who started the thread and who was commenting. Seems like lured_in_again has the 3FP.
@lured_in_again It would be helpful to know if you see any sign of a break going from the wreath to the E in ONE on your 3FP as is shown on Dennis's coin?

Re: 1921 P VAM 3FP photos
I agree that the clashes appear similar between a 3GL2 and this 3FP discovery coin.

Good work, Dennis! Although, y'know, more holes in the 21P set now...

Topping this just to point out that with a day to go, some of these are nice, bargain prices. 1878-P VAM 2A SUPER CD ANACS 62 is only $187, VAMview estimate is $500 1878-P VAM 130B ANACS 45 is only $45, VAMview estimate is $120 1878-P VAM 168 Doubled P PCGS 45 is only $45, VAMview estimate is $120 B...

Re: Lamination vs. cracked planchet?
Interesting coin! Both lamination and cracked planchet errors refer to inherent flaws in the planchet prior to strike. The word "lamina" means a "thin layer of material" so a lamination error is typically when a thin layer of material is separating and the defect is primarily in the horizontal layer...

Re: 1921-P with nice N-clash
Hi Dennis, No, neither of my examples have any trace of either die break, nor the gouges at the A; one of them, though, has an otherwise interesting small struck-thru area at that same A. It's also the "VAM 3FF discovery coin" if that's ever of interest for the sake of reference and comparison. Tom ...

Pretty! Both of my 3FT must be EDS - no clash, no trace of that neck die break you show.

Re: VAMs (78P / 83P /21P) on Great Collections - ending 2/16/2020
Wow, if this is where VAMs are in general, now's the time to BUY, BUY, BUY!!!!! I feel guilty for the price I just paid for the 78-P V165... There’s usually strong demand for high grade examples, but a lot of times lower grade examples can go for cheap, it’s true. That’s why I point these out to my...

Back from LVA 10/20/2020 with 21P and 85O kills
Hi gang, Just got a package back from Sydney. LVA received my coins on 9/24, and it’s postmarked 10/9 so that’s a pretty darn fast turnaround time. I had four issues to present to him: 1) The newly announced 1885-O VAM 35 looked to me a lot like VAM 12, so I sent LVA a couple VAM 12 examples. He agr...

Re: Proof of existence? VAM-130 or 185? (1878)
I don't believe VAM's 130 or 185 exist. Can anyone show me evidence they exist? You mean like this? weth_V130_V185_not.jpg Unfortunately, they're a VAM 131C2 and VAM 186B, respectively. I keep wanting to load them into the SSDC just to "fill those holes" but alas, I cannot bring myself to do...

Re: Just opened my mail look at what I found
Hi JB, Yes, the VAM 12 does appear to have a very faint dash under the second 8. It's so light that LVA probably didn't include it in the original description of the die; it is even fainter on LDS examples. Maybe this VAM 35 has a different reverse pairing, but from here it still looks like a VAM 12...

Re: 1885-o Morgan VAM-24 with Belly button.
Minor dishing of the eagle can happen on other 85-O, but they are most prominent on the VAM 24. When I was cleaning up the 85-O listings a couple years ago, I sent a range of VAM 24 examples to LVA and asked whether this was a "variety". He replied: "All of these 'belly buttons' are caused by slight...

That thread impression on the lip matches the one on the VAM 12.
