Re: Onliest I found so far

Without divulging which Clashed E it is, I memorized the clash mark location at eagle's right wing and the scratch thru the D of UNITED. I searched Ebay for a few weeks, and bought 5 coins trying to find one. The fifth coin was a winner. Paid common money and had 4 other coins that I released back i...

As you know, there are a lot more new listings possible in this series. Keep up the die study!

Until it was revised, your coin would have fit into the VAM-12 family.

Where ever this post is headed, rest assured that this exact die pair in earlier die states does not have a doubled mint mark.

Looks like strike doubling on the mint mark.

Re: Ohio State Show in Dublin

I once found a 1902-O VAM-45A that was fire damaged. It is in Pete's (Vamhusker) collection unless he has let it go. Supposedly it was slabbed by ANACS with a "seared red" label. There is a story behind that label that involves Pete, Fogie, JR and me. Not sure if Pete ever sent it in to get that lab...

Re: Ohio State Show in Dublin

Now that is cool. As a structural earthquake engineer by training (yes, training in what happened in the 1906 SF earthquake), and numismatist, I would have bought it hands down. Thanks for sharing 8-)

Re: Question: I am attributing my 1902-o VAM-24

I went back thru my files to 2009 including all the letters from LVA. It appears that the reference to Die 1 is just a misnomer in the listing. There never was a VAM-24 Die 2. Hope that helps.

Re: 1897-o Morgan - Confusing page.

You may have just entered the "gray area". Multiple die pairs may exist. There may not be a "proper" single die pair that fits into the VAM-6.

Re: Spiked 2... (02o)

What "jumps" out at any one VAMmer is where they look in rapid in-hand viewing. This changes from person to person. The doubled ear and cotton leaves of the VAM-56 is prominent enough if trained to look there first. Another way to put this is "one man's one & done is not another's". The doubled ear ...

Re: 1904-O VAM-29 and VAM-47 Reverse die marriage.

Kurt, I did look at V21.1. I don;t think it fits at all in the V29/V47 reverse die discussion. The roughness around the IGWT letters just doesn't fit. Besides, "dots at denticles" are common on reverse dies, especially for the 1904-O series.

It is a great crack/break combination. Kinda rivals the Scarface but on the reverse, which is why I wanted one. Thanks all for the kudos.

I use the LDMG scale. If Iike the coin, and I can obtain it for what I think it is worth, it meets the LDMG grading system 8-)

Re: 1904-O VAM-29 and VAM-47 Reverse die marriage.

Just to address the question I posed, here are some photos. First is the VAM-29 "G-we" then the denticles below the D in DOLLAR. Followed by the VAM-47 photos of the same areas.

Re: 1904-O VAM-29 and VAM-47 Reverse die marriage.

Well, I finally have my Reference Set in front of me. Here is what we do know. My example of VAM-29 is PL. Thus it is either the first or second use of the reverse die. Given the clear G-we, let's assume it is the first use. The reverse of the VAM-47 is clearly a later die state, since it is clashed...
