Re: whats a 1881 o VAM 33B worth?
A tough coin. I'm not sure very many have changed hands to get any kind of idea what the value might be. ANACS has only graded four of them, two 53's and two 55's. PCGS and NGC do not make a VAM designation for WOW List coins on their holders or population reports.

Dennis thanks for posting. Great photo's of the VAM 24 1-2-3 progression. I have all three but never really gave the VAM 24 without the observe pitting a second thought. I will be keep my eyes open for it now.

Re: 1889 VAM 7B/VAM 60
Thanks guys for helping me solve one of my long time mystery coins. Andy's coin pictured as the current VAM 7A is a match. Wayne, taking a closer look at your VAM 7A photo's convinced me.

Re: 1889 VAM 7B/VAM 60
Can you check the reverse for a very faint clash N in IN? You may have to tilt the eagle head down and try it in real good lighting. No Clash N on the obverse? [/quote] Okay, when I tip the eagles head down I do see a line from the eagles wing to the right inner serif of the n. No clashed n on the o...

Re: 1889 VAM 7B/VAM 60
Check and see if you have the die marker with the polishing lines in the lower cap and the dot on the lower right serif of the R in LIBERTY. The clash N fades away with die wear. In addition, check the reverse die for a very faint clash to the N of IN and for die cracks in AMERICA and STATES. There...

1889 VAM 7B/VAM 60
I have been following the New take on VAM 23A post because of a coin I labeled as a 1889 VAM 7B LDS and filed away. It has the observe and reverse die markers of the VAM 7B/60. What has confounded me all this time is there is no letter transfer, but there are faint observe and reverse clashes. Pictu...

Congratulations on your die study and two new discovery coins. I really like the reverse displacement on the 5A.

I Poked This 1890 P With A Stick and ...
I poked this 1990 P with a stick and the large lump under Liberty's chin did not budge. It weighs in at 26.3 grams has the correct ring when dropped and has tested silver on two different metal spectrometers. It appears to be a far date possibly a slanted one. So what is it occluded gas, counterfeit...

Re: 1885-o Morgan VAM-24 with Belly button.
Minor dishing of the eagle can happen on other 85-O, but they are most prominent on the VAM 24. When I was cleaning up the 85-O listings a couple years ago, I sent a range of VAM 24 examples to LVA and asked whether this was a "variety". He replied: "All of these 'belly buttons' are caused by sligh...

Screenshot 2020-09-04 at 6.36.01 PM.png (1882 CC & 1897 P Morgans) The similarity in the area of field, top of wreath bow to tail feather bottoms. Could a Wood Chip strike-through be of similar size and orientation on two different coins? The similarity does seem strange. I located my coin. I have ...

I will have to look for it and take another look, but probably not. It seems to me that I found a couple wood fibers still imbedded on the coin.Geseas wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 4:40 pmAre you not sure it is 'raised' ?all-who-wander wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 4:25 pmYes, it looks like that. That coin looks a lot like the 1882 CC I found. I finally decided it was struck through wood shavings.
