Re: Private GOLD morgan dollars

Scott, your other Oregon collector would love to photograph one for posting here. Let me know when they are done and if you can trust me send one and I'll photo it and send it back. Such an accomplishment should be shared with pics as well as text. Bob

OT The Squirrel says:

The Squirrel says Remember all who have fallen this Memorial Day. sqirral.jpg Memorial Day in the United States—an underappreciated holiday. Look at the sacrifice that Americans made in defending us. The American revolution started it all — 8,000 killed – 25,000 wounded. A few years later, the War o...

Re: LVA

I’m still trying to get my first new find, As a newbie, just one is all I want! Now we all can't believe you as we remember well the first one and then the drive to find the second, and the third, and the fourth, etc. When that coin comes back from the TPG with a label saying "Discovery Coin" the f...

Re: VAM of the Week! Sorry!

Thanks for all the comforting comments. I sometimes wonder why some people just flop over and die whereas people like myself live on. Trust me it was violent and damaged the heart. I probably should have died. Doc says with exercise the heart will get back a lot of what it lost. I am thankful to be ...

VAM of the Week! Sorry!

I have missed a number of weeks at getting a VAM of the Week up BUT I have a good excuse. Had an operation on November 7th and as I was recovering from that I had a massive heart attack. Was in the hospital for 16 days over Christmas while they buzz sawed me open and did multiple bypasses. I'm okay ...

Peace has a Pony tail, ear ring. extra ...

Re: What is good about a digital camera>

I concur with the Indian. I also use a Celestron for many closeups. And I use my Canon for full coin shots. Lighting truly is the issue for many shots. I like to lay my coins sometimes in a window sill where good light is but not direct light from the sun. I also bought off the bay some cheap backin...

Re: Hypothetical question

About two years ago, I found a dealer on the bay who was selling a bunch of Morgans all graded but not attributed by ICG. I used to monitor this dealer because he knew nothing about VAMs. I bought 5 1882-0 VAM 32B all in high MS which is a nice VAM. The grading was accurate as they have been crossed...

CAC

Some discussion: I think we can agree that a CAC sticker adds some element of value to a coin. Why do we need another grader to verify the grading on the holder? Seems like if we are paying the grading companies to grade a coin they should be accurate. Yes, I am well aware that grading is subjective...

I put 164 Vams on ebay. Some graded, some Raw, some VSS. If you buy off ebay I'll knock 10% off and ship free. Bob

I have also sold many coins with listings labeled VSS. Sometimes graded and sometimes not. You can bank on John's attribution.

Re: VSS vs Ebay's Policy

Where you got into trouble was using the word slabbing. I use VSS in the title all the time. Here are two examples that are up right now: 1889 P VSS VAM 30 Doubled Ear, Left Edge of Hair Curls Below Ear Dbld Nice Coin! and 1884 O/O VAM 48A VSS High O/O Center Bar, Die Break Above Cap High Grade Coi...

I have for several years now used a 35X50 I bought on ebay. Here is an auction number of what I'm talking about: 223871610725. There are a number of them on the bay if you search 35X magnifying. Funny thing is that they say "made in Germany" but come in a box that says made in China. They are glass...

Re: SALES TAX

Bob; Im with Chris on this one : On E BAY or any auction site, explaining your costs etc of sale is burdensome and most buyers care less. To be more clear in what I do and I don't explain all costs to all. It goes like this. The person offers a low ball offer and I respond with I pay grading fees, ...

Re: SALES TAX

I have sold a few coins on the bay where sales tax was collected. I agree with Scott that this will hurt sales. I got a low offer and explained I had grading costs plus ebay/paypal fees as well as shipping went up higher than I was collecting. He came back with he had to pay sales tax. Fyi, its typ...
