1921-P VAM-3F4 Die Gouge Wing, Pitted Reverse, Die Break Above R

Discovered by Rob Joyce, July 2008. Revised 2010.

This coin is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM and a WOW! Morgan VAM.

3F4 (revised) IV1 - D2a (Die Gouge Wing, Pitted Reverse, Die Break Above R) (189) I-3 R-7
Obverse IV 1 - Die 2 - Diagonal die crack from 1 thru neck point up to jaw front.
Reverse D2a- Radial die crack left side of R in America with diagonal die crack from top left of R over to denticles where it becomes a break. Denticle impressions at ME no longer visible from die wear.

Comments:
1- A higher grade example still shows faint denticle impressions. Also, close inspection of the discovery coin image finds detectable denticle impressions.
2- It appears that the second obverse die's use began before the reverse crack above the R in AMERICA and the radial crack from the R to the wreath formed. Later die stages of Obverse Die 2 have diagonal die crack from date to chin. See also 1921-P VAM-3F3.

The discovery coin of VAM-3F4 also had a major lamination. Cool vam, interesting error in the same coin. Bonus!
