1899-O VAM-6 Micro O Reverse
Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, March 1974.
This coin is a
III23 · C3o (Small Micro O Tilted Far Right, Near Date) (181) I-3 R-5
Date set further left than normal.
– Slightly doubled ear at right inside and bottom outside.
Small micro I O mint mark set slightly high and centered with tilt far to right. Slightly doubled outside edges of middle leaves of top three clusters of left wreath slightly on middle leaf of third cluster from bottom of right wreath.
– A few short diagonal strong polishing lines in middle of eagle’s left wing. Shorter and finer than lines in VAM 5 wing. Fine diagonal polishing line between eagle’s left wing and neck intersecting tip of eagle’s lowest neck feather. Small raised dot on left side of fifth tail feather from right.
1899-O VAM-6 Micro O. The 1899-O Micro O coins used the smaller Barber quarter mint mark. The interesting thing about this variety is that the reverse was used as the master to create the 1896-O, 1900-O, and 1902-O micro O coins. The 1899-O Micro Os have six different VAMs: VAM-4, VAM-5, VAM-6, VAM-31 and VAM-32.
