1891-P VAM-2 Doubled Ear
Discovered by Bill Fivaz, February 1973.
This coin is a
2 III2 2 C3a (Doubled Ear) (189) I-3 R-4
Obverse III2 2
- Ear strongly doubled at bottom and halfway up side. Hair strongly doubled just above the ear. Small die chip on forehead just in front of the hairline.
1891 VAM-2 Double Ear. This variety has a fantastically doubled earlobe. When it is encountered, be sure to check Liberty's upper lip for a die break. If the break is present, the coin is a
, a much more rare variety. The normal VAM-2 is available in high grade mint state examples without too much hunting.
