1889-O VAM-2 Far Date, Oval O

Discovered by George Mallis, June 1965.

This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM.

2 III2 8 - C3b (Far Date, Oval O) (181) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 8 - Date set further right than normal. Some specimens show die chips between loops of first 8 on right.
Reverse C3b - High set, oval O mint mark, centered and upright.

Comments: A very tough coin in Mint State with few known examples. See VAM-2A for a photo of the date position.
