Far Date, Doubled 1, O/O Line on Left
Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, June 1966.
3 III2 2-C3r (Far Date, Doubled 1, O/O Line on Left) (181) I-2 R-3
- 1 double at top to left. Date set further right than normal.
- II O mint mark doubled on left inside as a line and at top inside as a diagonal line.
VAMs 3 and 38 do not share the same obverse. The LVA plates listing both are outdated, but serve as a good way to compare a VAM 3 to a VAM 38. The key feature for a VAM 3 is the interior of the repunched mintmark is much stronger than the listing would indicate. The 'line on left' feature is the left edge of a nearly complete right side of a secondary Oval O mintmark that almost fills the opening of the primary mintmark.
