1879-CC VAM-4 Doubled Right C in Mintmark

Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, May 1973.

4 III2 1 ∙ C3d (Double C) (178) I-2 R-3
Obverse III2 1 – Die chip on the left between the loops of the first 8 in date. Closed 9 variety
Reverse C3d – V CC mint mark shifted to left with large spacing between C's. Right C is doubled on left inside.

Comments:
1- Reverse look for right c in mint mark doubled on left inside. Obverse has a die chip on the left side of the 8. Closed 9 variety and this coin has 2 die gouges downward from Ms. Liberty's nose. Need to compare with other VAM 4' s on die gouges. Gouges not mentioned in VAM book.
