1878-S VAM-39 Engraved Wing Feather, Die Chips Liberty Head

Discovered by David DeRuiter, November 1979.

Obverse II 1– Some tiny die chips in front of ear and dot at back of nose. Both 8's have raised metal in loops from die polishing. Fourth right star broken.
Reverse B2aa– Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg. Fine engraving lines between eagle’s right wing and body. R in Trust broken. Die chip back of top arrow head. Some light polishing lines on left field with long polishing line from bottom of eagle’s right wing down to olive branch and diagonal die gouge on outside of eagle’s left leg. Later die state than 1878-S VAM-99.

Comments:
1- VAM-39 features well over a dozen die chips on Liberty's head.
