1878-P VAM-197 Doubled UR-BUS UNU, Missing Feather

Revision July 2004 by Bill Van Note

197(revised) II 7 · B2f (Doubled UR-BUS UNU, Missing Feather) (180, 194) I-2 R-4
Obverse II 7– Slightly doubled UR-BUS UNU at top inside of letters towards coin center.
Reverse B2f - Feather completely missing next to eagle's right leg. R in Trust not broken. Different die than VAMs 196, 198, and 199-2.

Comments:
1- Let it be known that it is thought that later die states have a repaired or reworked (D) on the reverse. EDS is 2-sided PL, so the obverse die was re-polished after the VAM 134 run ended. EDS PL examples appear to be very scarce if not rare.
2- The II7 Obverse is also found as the obverse of 1878-P VAM-134.
