1878-CC VAM-24 Doubled Leaves
Discovered by Jeff Oxman, July 1984.
This coin is a
24(revised) II6 - B1f (Doubled Cotton Leaves)(179) I-4 R-4
Obverse II6 -
Doubled cotton leaves and bolls on right side. Eyelash doubled at top.
Reverse B1f -
- Vertical die scratch in eagle's left wing opposite neck-wing junction.
The 1878-CC VAM-24 has doubled leaves and cotton blossom in Liberty's hair. Note the alignment of the CC where the right side of the CC lines up with the curve of the bow to the left of the bow knot. There is also a dot of metal in the left C of the CC mintmark that is not present in
. Although the Top 100 book claims the VAM-24 is more rare than the VAM-6 or VAM-18, it appears that the VAM-18 is actually the toughest of the varieties. VAM-24 is certainly a tough find in its own right, however!
